Marineflakbatterie ‘Termunten’

Navy anti-aircraft battery Termunten is still largely intact. Built on top of and on the inland side of the levee, the battery consisted of dozens of bunkers and numerous thin-walled troop accommodations. Four casemates for 12.7-cm anti-aircraft guns were built along the levee. It is believed these structures are unique in the Netherlands in that they rested on deep wooden pile foundations. The ammunition was stored in a type FL317 depot and a type M383 Einheitsmaschinenraum contained a generator. During air raids, a safe refuge could be found in a couple of type 668 six-man shelters. Still surviving are: one type 668, the M383 and the FL317, one pile-supported bunker for a 12.7-cm gun, and several thin-walled troop quarters and garages that would have served as stables or as storage sheds for farm machinery.
