Widerstandsnest 38 L – Nachrichten Anlage ‘Elefant’
Nachrichtenanlage [radar complex] ‘Elefant’ was built in the dunes at Castricum. It consisted of two wooden truss-masts that were nicknamed Kleiner Elefant and Großer Elefant [little elephant and big elephant], and a Wassermann M IV radar. The three of them scoured the skies day and night in search of enemy aircraft. Two type L409A bunkers defended the complex.
The footer that once supported the Große Elefant is now a lookout. The two L409A bunkers are present underground.
