The Westkapelle sea wall breach

After Allied bombers destroyed the sea wall south of Westkapelle, the sea rushed in and the island of Walcheren was inundated. Two bunkers that were located right at the breach, a type 667 casemate and a type 134 ammunition bunker, have both disappeared. A shallow bay now marks the location of the breach. At low tide, one can still see a section of weathered anti-tank wall. The Westkapelsche Kreek, a sea arm caused by the 1944 breach, was closed off soon thereafter the war.
