Widerstandsnest 17 – Nachrichten-Bau ‘Schoorldam’[communication post]

Behind a little house in the village of Schoorldam arose a small bunker complex. The central component of the complex was the telephone exchange for all the phone lines between Stützpunktgruppe Schoorl and the inland German nerve centers. Smaller bunkers with cable wells and substations, known as “Kabelschaltbrunnen” and “Kabelschaltstellen”, were located throughout Stützpunktgruppe Schoorl. One of these cable wells was located a few kilometers east of both Marine Seezielbatterie Kamp and another one near Marine Seezielbatterie Bergen. In Schoorldam the Germans built a type 616 “Großschaltstelle” or large telephone exchange. The bunker was given an exterior wall and a pyramidal inclined roof, just like the stolpboerderijen, the local farms. This disguised its military purpose and reduced the chances of recognition as a military target from the air.

The bunker is located on private property and is not accessible. The tall roof was removed after the war.
