The Germans built a complex of shelters west of Gerritsland in a wooded area known as “De Dennen”. The bunker complex, accommodations for the members of the headquarters company, counted over sixty Feldmässige Bauten. It was enclosed by a barbed wire fence with a checkpoint.

The bunkers in the complex were interconnected by open trenches. The structures included a mess hall (later the temporary home of the Texel Museum), two hospital bunkers and several kitchens and garages.

During their Uprising, Georgians troops held the complex for several days until they were forced to retreat via De Koog and the airport towards the light house. Many German and Georgian soldiers died in these woods.
