Widerstandsnest 44 H – Peilstand Langerak

A few hundred meters north of the Zeeweg road, the Germans built a range finder [Peilstand] to support Marine Artillerie Abteilung [navy artillery section] 201. WN 44H was by far the smallest complex and consisted of only a few bunkers. Only one newly-built “Ständiger” or permanent bunker was really important for the operations of the coastal batteries. This was a type S449, built for a better view on an artificially heightened dune top. It looked like a small fire control post but was not. It gathered and processed data to direct fire of the artillery batteries in MAA 201.

Originally two separate complexes, the range finder station was merged with the northern land front in March of 1945. Remnants of both the land front and the Peilstand can be seen today.
