Zuidzand battery, located just south of Zandvoort, was completed and ready for action around June of 1942. This battery, like many early batteries, featured open emplacements for the artillery. Fire was directed from a Verstärkt Feldmässiger Leitstand [fire control post]. In spite of its being a VF-type, this post was not replaced with a more modern design in later years. Zuidzand battery was expanded to about fifty small bunkers. Its main weapons were four 9.4-cm cannon. The interior dimensions of the VF-fire control post were very small compared with other fire control posts. The Widerstandsnest had a secondary range finder supporting the main post. The artillery was housed in four type 671abg.626a casemates. These bunkers were very slight modifications of the standard designs and many German documents listed them as simply 671 S.K.
Most of the battery is intact, albeit underground. The foundation “Stichting Bunkermuseum Zandvoort” has plans to excavate a number of bunkers and establish a museum.
