Stratingplantsoen

The Stratingplantsoen, the green axis to the west of the Wijkerkstraatweg in Velsen-North, which runs from west to east, is still open and empty. Photograph from 1955, a full five years after completion.  Google Earth/Maps show the current situation with various four-directional street views.  The trees have grown considerably and the occasional reconstruction block has been replaced by new development.  The 1955 photograph shows Hoogoven [steel mill] property; it is working class housing where the laborers lived.  The smoke stacks in the background are those of the PEN electricity generating station.  Collection: Velsen Gemeentearchief [Municipal Archives]
